August 10: City Council to consider delivery bots

Update, August 10: Austin City Council voted unanimously to approve the resolution. The Statesman‘s Sebastian Herrera has more here.

On Thursday, August 10, Austin City Council will consider a resolution to approve a pilot project for autonomous delivery bots. ATA is asking you to contact your Council Member to voice support for this innovative means of solving last mile challenges in a sustainable, forward-thinking way.

The resolution requires the “personal delivery devices” to:

  • only operate on City of Austin owned sidewalks and crosswalks;
  • weigh no more than 300 pounds, excluding cargo;
  • have a maximum speed of 10 mph; and
  • be capable of operating autonomously.
