ATA Advisory Board Profile: Heather Lewis

Austin Tech Alliance consults and relies on our Advisory Board for their expertise and feedback on our programs and strategy. This week we’ll learn about ATA Advisory Board Member, Heather Lewis. Heather is Client Success Manager at DISCO

Why did you decide to join the ATA Advisory Board?

Upon arriving in Austin, I was looking for ways to plug into the city’s civic-minded community. Sarah (ATA’s Executive Director), was one of the first people I met. In our first conversation, she shared her vision for the organization. She also described the ways she’s leveraging her network and understanding of community issues to create informative content for the ATA’s online and in-person communities. I was hooked. It’s an honor to serve with her and help amplify the great work the ATA is doing in our community.

What is your favorite thing(s) about being a part of ATA?

Definitely… a tie between collaborating with Sarah and the Advisory Board and participating in ATA events.

Why is it important for the tech community to be civically engaged?

Everyone has something to contribute to their community. This includes employees of large tech companies, start-ups, technologists, and entrepreneurs. Civic engagement is especially important in cities like Austin where innovation economies are booming, living costs are rising, and demographics are changing.

Through ATA, folks with tech skills can become more aware of the pressing issues facing our region and apply them to advance civic-minded causes.
